AKG D112 Industry Standard Large-diaphragm dynamic microphone for Bass Instruments and Kick Drum

Product Description

The D 112 has earned a well-deserved reputation worldwide as the best kick drum microphone ever made. Heavy-footed drummers won’t faze it, because the D 112 handles up to 160 dB SPL with no audible distortion. A specially engineered diaphragm with a very low resonance frequency maintains solid and powerful response below 100 Hz, while a narrow band presence rise at 4 kHz punches through dense mixes with little or no added EQ. The result is a kick drum sound that ideally balances precise definition and forceful impact. The D 112 is also an excellent choice for use with bass cabinets, trombones, etc. Built in windscreen, SA 60 stand adapter included.

  • Large-diaphragm dynamic microphone for bass instruments
  • Extremely high SPL capability
  • Classic microphone for stage and studio applications

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the top Kick mics, probably the best., August 9, 2009

(REAL NAME)
The D112 is an industry standard for kick drum micing, and for a reason. Its EQ contour is perfectly tailored for kick drum in a way that is only rivaled by the D6. For use in front of the beater, aimed at the rim, or outside the drum, the results are consistently satisfying. This definitely delivers that signature rock kick sound. If you are looking for more natural kick sound, the RE20 is probably your best bet, and if you like a very clicky sound, the B52 shines in that area. But the D112 should be adequate in any circumstance, if not necessarily the first choice for every genre. If you are only going to own one kick drum mic, this should be it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great mic for a great price., April 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I'm not the type of person who likes to shop around for the best price and for the last few years, I've purchased all of my musical equipment from one on-line store. They have always been reliable and sold products at a competitive price. Needing a new kick drum mic, I chose the AKG D112 because of its reputation and past experience of the older, industry standard, AKG D12. As usual, I went to my good old reliable on-line store and found the product priced at $250. For some reason, I decided to check out Amazon. For a few dollars difference, I wouldn't have considered it. But here, on Amazon, was Sonic Sense selling the same product for $189.95. I took a risk and saved $60.
I am happy to report that the mic arrived on time and in perfect condition. Sonic Sense are definitely a company I will use again. It's time for this old dog to learn a few new tricks.
