I bought the STR-DN2010 to work with a new Sony 3D KDL-40HX800 Bravia LCD and a Sony 3D BDP-S570 Bravia Blu Player. It does a lot of new things like decoding SACD multichannel audio from the BDP-S570. But some things it does not do well at all.

For instance the highly touted "automatic" audio calibration. The STR- DN2010 algorithm mangles the high frequency response of my JBL Pro speakers making them screech and it does not seem to hear my Velodyne subwoofer well at all! It boosts the subwoofer level the maximum +10 dB no matter how loud I turn it up. After checking to see if there was a new firmware release, I gave up on the "auto" calibration and used my old Joe Kane HDTV calibration DVD.

Next the STR-DNB2010 interprets between track changes from the BDP-S570 as a total loss of input, causing the KDL-40HX800 into thinking that it lost communications with the STR-DN2010, switching the audio over to the TV speakers instead of the normal STR-DN2010. The... Read more

I bought this receiver to replace my Sony STR-DA5300ES receiver to get better Bravia Sync support and have more HDMI ports. Unfortunately I found major problems with the firmware that is forcing me to return it. The receiver intermittently goes into mute without any reason. The Bravia Sync which is one of the main reasons I bought the receiver has bugs in synchronization and discovery with other Sony products that are supposed to support this feature. In addition, the receiver runs very hot in standby presumably because the 4 port Ethernet switch is on all the time. To be fair, this receiver has a nice design and if the problems are fixed, it would a good value for money. Unfortunately, Sony is notorious for being slow to bring out updates or abandoning the product once is it in the market. I'll be checking the reviews in a few months to see if some of these issues have been fixed.

I was a little skeptical about purchasing the SONY STR-DN2010 after seeing some of the reviews and the fact that SONY discontinued it, but considering the price and the amount of high-end features, I went for it. This receiver has worked perfectly, and the surround sound and video quality is truly unbelievable (at least in my living room). I have had the unit for a month, and have not had any issues. Recently connected it to an inexpensive wireless bridge and was able to connect it to my DLNA computer - and can pull music, pictures and video from the unit. It takes a while to setup - and you must read the manual, but it is not difficult and the results are outstanding. To be honest, I've never experienced better audio and video quality (all HDMI components) than with this unit. I would buy it again if I had the choice!
