Fun to Play, By Patrick O'Hare "Pat" (Charlottesville, VA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Blueridge BR-143CE Historic Mahogany 000 Guitar with Fishman Prefix Plus-T pickup (Electronics) I own this guitar and have been very pleased with it. I should add up front that guitar is only a hobby for me and I'm a chukka-chukka rythmn player at my best. A decent ear, but no professional. The 143 CE is my first Blueridge and my first 000-size guitar. I was attracted by the compactness and having an alternative to dreadnoughts. The action and tone are fine, although it can get a little lost playing with larger/louder guitars. I don't play it amplified much, but the electronics are very good to my unrefined ear. I had to swap out the saddle when I started to get a lot of buzz on the upper frets, but that did the trick. The neck looks great so it may just have been a strange, dry winter. I have heard good things about other Blueridge models but can't speak to their quality. As for this guitar, I think it's a good buy although I'd like to get it for a couple hundred less than the advertised price. 0 of 1 people found the following review helpful basically happy, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Blueridge BR-143CE Historic Mahogany 000 Guitar with Fishman Prefix Plus-T pickup (Electronics) I was looking at the low end Taylor guitars and noticed a review somewhere recommending this guitar instead. This guitar sounds very nice plugged in. I am not as impressed by its unamplified sound, but I was playing a dreadnought before which had a much deeper sound to it. I was told by a music store, however, that because it is solid bodied hardwood guitar that its sound should improve with age. In fact, I went to the store specifically trying to decide whether to keep the Blueridge or go for a Taylor, and the sales rep ended up convincing me to keep this one!Two issues, however, which I should have looked into more before hand. If you're at all environmentally conscious, the hardwoods used on this guitar (mahogany or some equivalent according to the sales guy, and the rosewood) are both being over-harvested world wide. The rosewood is said to come from East India, which is probably better than Madagascar, where they are being over harvested for the China musical... Read more |
