The weight and heft of the metal is impressive. It's not flimsy aluminum at all. You know immediately after opening and removing the parts that this is no toy. This is a serious piece of equipment.Once assembled I put it through a workout (as the boys were already asleep). It's rated for up to 13U players, but had no problem with my swings at all. Put about 100 swings on it and it's an impressive training tool for sure. Ball is easy to move up and down. So many positives. Here's a few: -The unit is singular and you move the angle and position of the plate (watch their videos). Fewer moving parts means less to break. For hitters, they can really conceptualize the angle the ball should leave the plate, especially on outside pitches. Opposite field hits shouldn't slice but should he hit hard and straight just the same. Easy to move and locate to get the exact point... He had some issues with swing memory and keeping his eye on the ball. We also wanted to help him strengthen the muscles in his arms with some repetitive swings. we saw immediate results. Before a game, he'd take 15-25 swings and his at bats improved dramatically. All other items we've purchased in the past, required 2 people to be involved. This system is all solo. Put it in the garage or out in the yard. It seems like the cables will snap, but as long as you're accurate and hit the ball (which is the idea) and not the cords, they should last awhile. I do plan on buying a replacement kit for the ball and string system, just in case. I have 2 more boys who are 9 and 6 and will use it as well. The ball height is adjustable for different swing heights. The "portable" version of this is at least $150 more. If you coach a team and want this on the field for training, it's worth the price. Set-up was uncomplicated, husband and 13 year old son were able to put together in less than 30 minutes. Son absolutely loves it. The green mat that comes with it needs to be place under the frame where the ball is being held by cables. The green mat has the guides for hitting different pitches. Son did need a bit of help at first adjusting the ball to his hitting height. But, after a couple of trys with his Dad, he can do it on his own now. The frame is portable. The baseball coach seems to like it as well. Per son and husband, the muscle memory for the swings is really kicking in. Best feature for this training tool is adjustability of ball on cable for various hitting heights and the fact that the net doesn't allow the ball to go far so that ball resets more quickly into hitting place. |
