That is exactly why I purchased this lamp; it is odd. But it works very well as directional lamp. I am considering another one in a different color. I had to put it where the cat could not get to it to chew on the faux fur.Everyone that sees Nessie in my room falls in love with it. I have informed them where it can be purchased and have told them NO they could not have mine. Even though this lamp was marketed toward kids I love my lamp and am glad that I made the purchase. I am just a big kid at heart.
