4.0 out of 5 stars Can you say "underrated"?, August 7, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

This is a game I passed over, time and time again. Until one day when I heard a few good words about it from Bob "The Game Overthinker" Chipman.
I ended up buying it for around $15, and I don't regret my purchase at all. This game is old school, and low budget all the way. ..but then again, who really cares about all of that? I grew up gaming in the 80s and 90s, and as an old school gamer, I put a lot more emphasis on how a game plays than the superficial polish of HD polygons. Besides, we need more sprite based games in this generation.

So, let me say this. If you really like classic games from the SNES era (because this really feels like a Super Nintendo game), then don't pass this one up. It won't change your life, but it'll give you hours of enjoyment.. and isn't that what gaming is all about?

3.0 out of 5 stars For what it's worth, November 1, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Heavenly Guardian (Video Game)
This game isn't bad it's not exactly good either it's average if games can be average. Your typical piece of sprite based retro gaming, cast spells at enemies they die. Honestly although I would like to rip on this game a ton for being so cookie cutter I must admit I liked Secert of Mana and Evermore. Same formula as this game just not casting magic only and different weapons. All and all if you don't mind a cheesy game that is really straight forward you, may like this game. However more than like if you are buying this you are retro gamer who needs a little blast from the past. Other than that for what I assumed they wanted the game for it's about what is to be expected. Last but not least the game is cheap now 9.99 new, this is how much I paid for it and thats what I base my review on.

Feeling nostalgiac? Heavenly Guardian may seem as if it may quench the need for some brainless, old school shooter action a la Pocky & Rocky if you want to get specific, but the game is so dated that it detracts from the gameplay. Then again, the gameplay doesn't have much going for it in the first place, based on the fact that the game just isn't all that fun. Heavenly Guardian's gameplay mechanics are basically broken to boot, and the co-op gameplay isn't much better. Not to mention that if you manage to play Heavenly Guardian for any substancial amount of time, you'll find that the game as a whole is quite short. All in all, Heavenly Guardian carries a budget price tag for a reason, and no matter how the game may look to you, you are much better off leaving the game on the shelf.
