As a person who, 25 years ago, could do over 2000 sit-ups in 1 1/2 hrs. I now find myself with much less energy and a more sedentary job and 60 years old. I have shunned all the other "hide-under-the-bed" exercise scams. I took a chance on this one and must say that the construction and theory are not bad in practice. For someone who wants to watch TV/listen to music/meditate while springing back-and-forth, I notice positive ab muscle tensioning. It's easy to sit there and rock; and before you know it you're rocking more and more, and easier and easier. Since the abs are the key to lower back muscle strength how can this tiny device, at a mere $100 hurt more than the first few days? This item will NEVER be under my bed. I'll wear it out and ask for one made from stainless steel! I think it's the best ab device available, if you need a device to motivate you to do ab exercises. Apt dwellers, this I recommend for you.

My husband wanted the ab rocket to help with his middle age "spare tire". I was more than happy to order it for him. It was reasonably simple to assemble and it ended up in the middle of the living room floor in front of the TV. It turned out our son and I always use it too, just cause it there, and it's fun. I'm one who never did sit ups because I could never keep my neck and shoulders in the right position. The ab rocket supports the neck and has handles to help pull up until you get those ab muscle strong enough to do it on their own. I'd also like to comment on the springs... I have seen reviews where folks were disappointed because the springs provided very little "resistance". I was under the impression that the spring with the most tension was there as an aid for the beginner & really out of shape (like me) and the more muscle you build in the abs the lighter the spring you would use... Anyway, our family has found the ab rocket a fun way to firm up our... Read more

I really can't rate the effectiveness of this product because I had to return it. But my recommendation is to NOT buy this product unless you are under 5 foot 10 inches tall. The instructions said it was very important to slide your butt back as far as it will go against the back cushion AND that your head must be against the cushioned head rest. I am 6 foot 3 and the head rest fell about even with my lower neck (if you position yourself in the seat according to the directions). In order for me to get my head against the head rest, I had to slide my entire butt off the front of the seat. I hope this helps potential buyers.

About Elliptical Trainers Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.
Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

Schwinn 420 Elliptical Trainer (model year 2009) Reviews
This review is from: Schwinn 420 Elliptical Trainer (model year 2009) (Sports)
I ended up buying this at a local sports store and like the previous two reviewers was a bit wary to buy it because there were no reviews. I ended up finally buying it because of the reputation that Schwinn has with its other ellipticals and was not disappointed.
I had no difficulty putting it together by myself but it would be best to have two people. Thank you reviewer Toasty for informing me that the water bottle holder is not included. I'll stop searching my house for the damn thing now. I thought I lost it. The bolts, screws, and washers come on two cardboard sheets along with two wrenches and a hex/screw driver. You will have the screws left over for the water bottle holder. The programming was pretty straight forward until I got to the custom program level. I'm still not sure how I got past that screen.
The elliptical itself feels sturdy and well built. I am 300 pounds and it supports my weight without shaking or wobbling. The 18" stride and the... Read more

I was wary if purchasing a product with no reviews on Amazon, but I found other reviews of this machine online and decided to take a risk. I'm glad I did. So far, this machine has met all my expectations.
Setup Took about 1.5 hours total with 2 people (don't even attempt to do this with 1 person). As I expected, some parts were harder to do than others because of the way the holes line up, but in the end I managed to put it all together. Don't make the mistake of adjusting the levelers before you put it all together like I did; otherwise you'll have to put them back at factory setting to realign the holes so the bolts can go through. I also made sure to spray all the moving parts with silicone lubricant as I was putting it together.
Note that you may want an actual wrench of some sort, in addition to the tools they provide you with. Also note that the cupholder they describe in the instructions is not actually included. (even though it is in the product... Read more

***UPDATE*** after almost 2 years of use <Aug 19 '11>: Just wanted to update my review, as my husband and I have used this machine 3 times/week each for almost 2 years. It still operates smoothly, no strange noise or stiffness anywhere. I really like the fact that this machine doesn't stop counting the work-out time when I pedal backwards (some machines don't know what to do with that, and stops counting the distance etc.) We're STILL very happy about this purchase. Thought I'd update the review and let you all know that as this is a large purchase (at least for us).
<Sep 25 '09> As Toasty mentioned, I was also unsure of purchasing this machine without any reviews posted but I did anyway. I've been working out with Precor elliptical machine at a nearby gym and I quite liked it but decided to purchase Schwinn 420 for my exercise room at home (did not want to pay thousands of dollars).
The assembly took just under 2 hours and... Read more
